Can Universal health care insurance actually save the United states money in the long run?
I have heard the argument health care insurance costs too much money. Think about that for a second, how many people go on Social security disability each year, then they are paid a monthly benefit, Medicare and Medicaid pay for hospital and doctor bills. Countless times people have to go on disability because they have no preventive care. With Universal health care insurance, that can be prevented and it would keep people healthy and off disability. The health care insurance is a good idea, the doctors are still private and we all have good health care. What do you think?

People who are now insured have a co-pay, and Insurance companies already do all these things that you said so how is it that when we talk about a Universal insurance that becomes an issue, when the insurance companies already do this, furthermore, this program would help the already insured because insurance companies would no longer to exclude preexisting condition, and they would not be able to say we are not going to pay because it is a preexisting condition, that problem would be solved so Yes, it would help even the now insured…

Question, did you know that the United States pays for the health care of citizens of other countries in the millions for free, should we not take care of our own first?

You are absolutely right. Preventetive care and early diagnosis are the key to keeping costs down. But we rely far too heavily on expensive and ineffective emergency care.
That would be why every other developed nation on Earth has guaranteed universal healthcare.
That would be why their total (public plus private) per capita expenditure is on average half of ours.
That would be why we have the lowest life expectancy, second lowest healthy life expectancy and highest child mortality in the Developed world.

No. Why don’t you poll the doctors and see how much they like it. Good luck with the fantasy it will keep people healthy and off disability, especially under democratic rule. Affordable health insurance is one thing. Universal health care and government control are another.

The money currently spend on health care in our country is more than enough to fund a wonderful system, one that would rank above 37th in quality. Plus preventative care would be a priority, so people are healthier.

Public health care is a good idea. It operates in many countries however it requires taxes to pay for it, but it’s a small cost to pay. Private health care eventually rips everyone off in the long run

Someone said it…I wanted to add to it…Universal Health Care does not have to mean "free health care." In fact Obama said "affordable" health care…NOT free. It would be low cost…Not a free for all for everybody.

No. In the long run, health care will cost more. Part of the problem is that the government has permitted the medical profession, the drug companies, and insurance companies to become limited access monopolies. If anyone who wanted to could become a doctor or whoever wanted to could start a drug company or create their own drugs with a minimum of red tape, costs would be lower. If the government can be relied on for even more coverage, the system will suck it all in.
It also seems you are poorly informed about SSDI. People aren’t just enrolled so they won’t have to pay. The fact is that it is very difficult to qualify and after you do, it doesn’t pay a lot. The waiting list of people trying to qualify is very long.
I support universal health care, though. The government has helped to create the mess, they can sort it out and fix it.
As to your second question. SSDI is paid for by the recipient while they were working as part of FICA.

OK…Countless times people that DO have health care still go on disability. The Insurers control the performance of the care you get. That will be a minimum, they will see to that. Health Care services are forced to minumize their proformance to accomadate insurance coverages. Then you have a copay crisis that eats away at the financial ability of the patient. With the loss of financial stability and uncertainties about your health and health care, human reaction is depression. Depression thus leads to other health issues and possible criminal resources.
One needs to take a realistic look at this issue, and not listen to a polatision and the rederic that makes me sick just thinking about it.

Not a good idea at all. Obama’s plan creates a monopoly because the so-called exchange sets the rules for the health insurance industry and will also compete with the industry as well. Either way, the govt program will still determine the amount of coverage an individual will get just like the health insurance companies right now.
Hawaii implemented universal healthcare for children and it failed after 7 months of operation. If it failed on a state level, how will it succeed on a national level?

It’s an issue because the govt forces insurance companies to comply with federal healthcare standards that would be created,and also the govt will compete with the insurance companies, which creates a monopoly. There would be only one "company" in a sense telling you what kind of coverage you can get, as opposed to having options in terms of choosing health coverage that you want or need for yourself.

No. Making it free doesn’t increase the number of doctors and hospitals. Now remember they are FULL with long lines in spite of the high prices they cost now. Making it free will drastically increase demand as people with a tummy ache might now go to the emergency room or doctor when before they wouldn’t. Ever wonder why Canadians come to the U.S. and pay for their surgery here when they can get it free in Canada? Well, think about it. The laws here favor the big drug companies and corporatism and that is what has increased our prices. If the government would GET OUT OF THE WAY prices would drop as TRUE competition came back into the equation.
